Sexiness in Kpop

kpopsecrets:

I hate how people are acting like girls being sexy in kpop is new. It seems like they think female singers weren’t sexy up until 2009. Sure singers might not have been dancing like Hyuna or Minzy but they were still sexy. Lexy, Ivy, Harisu, BoA, Swi.T,Chae Yeon, Lee Hyori, Um Junghwa, and Baby V.O.X. have had some of the sexiest videos in kpop. There is nothing wrong with a singer having a sexy image unless you they are a child. These women are not sluts and whores because they are sexy but calling sluts and whores makes you immature and look stupid. If dancing sexy makes idol girls sluts, then your precious perfect oppa is a man whore.

s!b: The “oh so conservative and pure” Hyuna and Minzy haters will have an issue with this.

I would like to add that the gender equality problem is the most obvious when it comes to new debuting groups and these comments irritates me the most.

Whenever a new girl group debuting, fans will be like:

“Stop f**king debut groups!!” “Another fail KPOP girl group.” “The cutesyness gotta go.” “That girl reminds me of Sailor Mercury from Sailor Moon! LOL.” “She looks like a toad…” “Their name is spelled UGLY!!” “SNSD/2NE1 WANNABES”

exception: YG (SM/JYP) new groups

Whenever a new boy group is debuting, fans will be like:

“aww these guys are so cute, what’s their name?” “My babies!! Noona crying happily <3” “They deserve it because they have been working so hard!” “HOLY SHIT THEY DIDN’T LIPSYNC!!” “MY BODY IS READY”

how kpop has destroyed my view of beauty.

kpopsecrets:

Since I have been into kpop, sure its about the music yet their appearance counts too. When I see new girl groups, it all depends on how they look. Most of them have the ”perfect” face and body. Most have a V face, S line and other ”lines”. They are actually pretty skinny and they weight very little.

Sometimes, I think that I want to look like them, I want to be perfect. Sure whatever call me a ”wannabe” but you know it’s true, you want to be ”perfect”. Sometimes I try to look at other idols that have the same age as me and try to weight like them yet they are way too skinny. (i’m pretty young..14 go head judge me all you want but I don’t care.)

When that doesn’t work I look for those with the same height as me and I try to reach their weight yet they are older than me by like 5-10 years. I just feel fat. I’m 164cm and weight 53kg.

All I’m happy with is my legs… because they are the same measurements of SNSD.

I keep getting discouraged everyday of how I look.

Now for the boys… My ideal type has now high expectations.

Most of the guys are tall or really tall. Are really handsome, A bubbly personality, most are good at dancing and singing, and last of all Korean. In the country I live, it’s really hard to find.

(Sure I’m young but you know I can dream.)

This is my story.

Kpop might have certain beauty standards, but don’t blame your high expectations solely on Kpop. Your life is filled with advertisements and ideals that are made to be there to change your expectations. You need to know that it’s not only Kpop that has standards. There are many things around your life that is made to shape a certain lifestyle for the purpose of making you consume certain products.

For example, you might be walking to your school and you will probably pass by many ads telling you that slim=attractive, Starbucks=the ideal place to social with your friends, Nike=you can be an athletic individual by purchasing their shoes, etc.

These standards exist and although it’s difficult to completely isolate yourself from them, you should know that many of these are idealistic and unrealistic, and sometimes these images are achieved by unhealthy diets.

Not all the members of girl groups (eg. SNSD) fit into the ideals that they are advertised as (eg. long legs and attractive faces); this applies to all groups, including boy groups.

Reverse Sexism and Kpop

kpopsecrets:

There is sooo much sexism in Kpop. Not only from artists and Entertainment industries, but more so from the fans.

Especially reverse sexism. I was watching a show with MBLAQ where the hostess were trying to FORCE Lee Joon into showing his body when he was clearly uncomfortable and I’ve seen the same happen to Seungho. And people would comment “Good job!” and are all over videos saying “abs *_*”

If the hosts had been men doing that to women, people would’ve been PISSED. And when girl groups use what they got, antis call them sluts, but then turn around and demand that guy groups do the same thing! It’s disgusting. It’s offensive to not only women but to men as well.

At first when I heard about a pissed off Men’s Rights group in Korea regarding a MV where a woman treated men like dogs, I was all “there are Men’s Rights groups?” But now I get it, Kpop fans can be just as bad as pervy men! And that’s not gender equality, it’s wrong no matter which sex does it!

s!b: My friends are like this, only caring about certain idols or boy groups for their bodies when I choose my biases off the personality they decide to show <3

This not only applies to Kpop, it’s commonly found in the entertainment industry because they are entertainers and they are just providing the ideal image that the public wants. In some way it does show the severeness of discrimination in Korea (especially sexual and racial) and it reflects on their societal norms. It’s sad but there are many things that idols can’t choose freely themselves.

This is really similar to what I’m studying at school and it really irritates me when I see people bash girl groups and saying that they are sluts when they clearly don’t know what the term means and it’s clearly just an image that they are pulling off; this never happens to boy groups at all. Fans are easily pleased by boy groups even when their talent is equal or even lower than some girl groups. I find the girl group problem very special because from my knowledge, they don’t receive as much hate locally in Korea (but boy groups still seem to have an advantage).

The reason why Kpop is sexist in many ways is because a considerable majority of the audience is female and this inequality increases demand for more fan service from male idols.

IU and TaeTiSeo

kpopsecrets:

This just come out of my mind suddenly, but I think SM decided to make a taetiseo sub unit to promote now because IU decided to not promote her newest single on music shows. And also because EXO has just debuted so they need a boost by putting them in taetiseo music video.

You can look at music shows (it was music bank if I’m not mistaken) that IU and TTS are battling for the number 1 and although I like Twinkle, I believe IU would have won if she promote/appeared at music shows. Well SNSD has a large fanbase in korea but IU is a singer and non-kpop fans korean people might like her more than idols.

I don’t hate tts or snsd but I wish IU could win on music shows. I enjoyed her latest single a lot.

s!b : a lot of my friends are sone and they’re going to say “taetiseo is a great singer too” uhm well idols are more like performer and entertainer while singers are singers. It’s two different jobs why can some people see.

FYI, IU was prepping for her solo concert so I’m sure she doesn’t even care about the awards anyways. It was a correct decision because she is already doing really well in sales without promotions and if she chose to promote at that time, she will need to dedicate a lot of time to rehearsals and interviews.

It seems like you are saying that TTS are performers and they are not singers but IU is an idol too and being an idol doesn’t mean they are not great singers, it’s just their image is being set that way.

On another note, you are ignoring other competitors that are also doing well on the charts such as Baek Ji Young, Ulala Session, and G.NA.

The real definition of underrated: SUNNY HILL AND SPICA

kpopsecrets:

Sunny Hill and SPICA are so freaking talented in all angles. People nowadays just give attention to the wrong groups.

Sunny Hill has been around for four years and only very few people recognize them. They are madly talented. They got great choreo. Their live performances are insane. Their lyrics are unique and not just the typical “I’m a girl/boy who’s in love you.” On top of it all, they produce and compose most of their songs.

Saying that SPICA is underrated may be an exaggeration since they just debuted this year, but it’s unfair that a group as talented as them isn’t getting the attention that they deserve. Reason MIGHT be because they aren’t in those huge kpop companies. What’s disappointing is that the girls of SPICA are actually more experienced than most of the kpop groups (all of them have at least 4 years training and Kim Boa of SPICA was Infinite and KARA’s vocal trainer).

I hope people will learn to recognize what real talent is and not just spazz because of looks and other stuff. I bet this post won’t even have notes or comments because nobody knows the groups I just mentioned.

s!b: I’m sick and tired of fans referring to their bias group as underrated when they’ve got all the attention they deserve.

I HAVE NEVER AGREED WITH A KPS POST SO FREAKING MUCH!!

I Miss the Old Kpop Fandom

kpopsecrets:

What happened to loving groups because of talent? I remember when it was not just kpop people were interested in, but actually got to get familiar with the ones that started it all, famous legends and veteran singers. Now all that matters is how the group is publicized and looks. Like the hype for groups like EXO and B.A.P most recently, yes they’re attractive and really talented, and I’m a fan myself, but I was almost disgusted at how half the fans hardly even knew them but were just following the trends of popular blogs and eventually finding them somewhat attractive. When did it matter to try to have the same interests as the tumblr famous? I really miss the old fandom. Some people can just be so materialistic and superficial.

s!b: Not a popular opinion, which means I’ll obviously be bashed.

Society has always been appearance-oriented, same as the kpop fandom. Appearance is always the first impression, it’s just a matter or people realising these talents later on.

New KPOP groups… are just too much!

kpopsecrets:

idk! i am a kpop fan, but i think there should be a break or gap for these companies to keep on producing new groups that sometimes people like me don’t even know who is who anymore. I love kpop groups who debuted from 2006-2009 those groups are still there. And they are the one who are more popular. I know that they just want other people to shine because of their talents, but can they just change some concepts sometimes? i’m sick of the same thing of these new groups they are all the same! They should produce  artists with 2 yrs gap. Give a break for people. Can we atleast have time to recognize one group after another? i dnt even know who’s who anymore.

idk, hate me for what i am saying but i am just saying my opinion.

SNSD, SuJu , Big Bang, 2ne1, T-Ara, Brown eyed girls, CN BLUE, FT ISLAND, BEAST, for me those are enough!

How should I comment about the ignorance of this post? Be realistic! Sooner or later the groups mentioned above will be replaced by the new groups that you once thought were irrelevant.

By the way there are constantly new fans joining so there will never be “enough groups” in the industry.
